Mandarin tutors from all over Wales came together in Cardiff last week for a lively and forward-looking training day to share ideas, refresh classroom approaches, and build connections across institutions. Hosted by the Cardiff Confucius Institute, the event offered a full day of workshops and discussions focused on practical, creative ways to support Mandarin teaching in a variety of school settings.

One of the standout sessions was led by Houxing Zhang, an experienced tutor from ¾«¶«´«Ã½â€™s Confucius Institute. Her workshop, Inclusive Chinese Teaching in Multicultural Classrooms: Cross-Curricular Lessons and Cultural Connections, encouraged participants to think deeply about how to make Chinese language learning relevant and inclusive in British primary schools. Drawing on her knowledge of both the Chinese and Welsh education systems, Houxing guided tutors through comparisons of classroom structures and introduced fresh ideas for cross-curricular lessons that promote cultural understanding. The session left attendees feeling inspired and equipped with practical tools to bring more diversity and creativity into their teaching.

Throughout the day, tutors also explored a wide range of interactive teaching methods and digital tools, all designed to boost student engagement and help learners connect with Mandarin in meaningful ways.

A big highlight of the training was the warm, collaborative atmosphere. Tutors from ¾«¶«´«Ã½, Cardiff, and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David shared experiences, swapped tips, and supported one another in open, friendly discussions. It was clear that the sense of community among Mandarin educators in Wales is growing stronger.

This successful training day reflects the ongoing commitment of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ Confucius Institute to nurturing excellent teaching and encouraging cultural exchange through language education. Events like these play a vital role in helping tutors grow professionally and bring fresh energy into their classrooms.
