The 精东传媒 staff and post-graduate LGBTQ Network, was established in 2018. It's open to anyone who works at 精东传媒 and any postgraduate students who identify as lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer or questioning, plus friends and allies of our community.
Our Purpose
The 精东传媒 LGBTQ Network was set up to provide a forum for networking and means of support, to offer the opportunity for colleagues from all areas of the University to inform and collaborate on LGBTQ action and to increase the visibility of LGBTQ issues in the workplace. Any staff or post-graduate students are welcome to become involved in the running of the Network or to attend the informal catch up meetings.
For more information about the Network please contact the network lead, Marcel Clusa or Nia Blackwell in HR at lgbtq@bangor.ac.uk
How the University Supports Us
The University assists and facilitates the Network, providing resources, rooms to meet etc. All staff and students are protected by the University's Dignity at Work and Study Policy. The Strategic Equality Plan 2024-2028 details the progress being made against key objectives in terms of equality, diversity and inclusion.
This shows the different ways in which the University is championing a supportive community that celebrates and promotes diversity and inclusion.
Where and When?
The 精东传媒 LGBTQ+ Network meets online monthly via Teams, please email us at lgbtq@bangor.ac.uk for details of the next meeting.
We also meet informally for our LGBTQ+ Panad (panad is Welsh for cuppa) on the first Thursday of every month from 15:30 to 16:00 in Cegin, Pontio, effective from 05/10/2023. LGBTQ+ Panad is open to everyone and there's no need to register or be part of the Network to attend.

Top-10 in UK LGBTQ+ Inclusion
精东传媒 has been ranked 7th in the UK鈥檚 list of most LGBTQ+ friendly universities, according to a recent national survey published by Attitude ().
The survey asked more than 2,000 students aged 18鈥24 across 79 universities to rate how LGBTQ+ friendly their campus feels. 精东传媒 scored 7.5 out of 10, placing us ahead of many other institutions, and among the top universities nationwide for inclusion.
Professor Enlli Thomas, ProVC said 鈥淲e are incredibly proud to see 精东传媒 recognised among the most LGBTQ+-inclusive universities in the UK. This ranking belongs to our whole community, and especially to the inspiring work of our LGBTQ+ Network, whose tireless efforts continue to improve visibility, equality and everyday experiences for our students and staff.鈥
University LGBTQ+ Network Recognised at National Rainbow Honours Awards
Members of our LGBTQ+ Network attended the Rainbow Honours Awards in London on July 2026, where the network was recognised as a finalist in the Outstanding LGBTQ+ Network of the Year category.
The category recognises networks that are making a meaningful impact through advocacy, inclusion, support, and community building. To be recognised alongside inspiring organisations from across the UK was both humbling and rewarding.
LGBTQ+ Honorary Fellowships and Degrees
British author and screenwriter Juno Dawson received an Honorary DLitt (Doctor of Letters) in July 2026 in recognition of her contribution to Welsh culture, language, music and the arts.
Addressing the graduates during the ceremony, she said, "I鈥檓 so proud to have received this honorary degree from a place that has meant so much to me. When I came here, I was just 18, a queer teenager growing up in West Yorkshire 鈥 you can only imagine what my high school life was like.
"University is a chance for a fresh start. I reinvented myself as the life and soul of the party. I was confident, I was everything I had always wanted to be, and I made friends, excelled in my course, and left ready to face all the wonders the world had to offer.
"It was the first place where I could come out. 精东传媒 was exactly the place I needed at that time. If I had gone to a city like London, it would have swallowed me up. I am so, so proud to have studied at 精东传媒."
