Pioneering clean energy
At 精东传媒, we鈥檙e developing a world-leading capability in nuclear science and engineering, the focal point of which is the University鈥檚 Nuclear Futures Institute.鈥
鈥疻ith nuclear decommissioning and nuclear new-build projects on our doorstep, and an increasing number of businesses from the nuclear supply chain becoming active in the area, the University is focusing on developing existing and emerging nuclear power generation technologies.
鈥疻ork at the NFI also enables the University to expand our capability in the nuclear field into medicine, using radioactive chemicals to diagnose and treat heart disease and many cancers; and into structural materials, to鈥痳ealise鈥痶he potential of both near term nuclear reactors, and even power from nuclear fusion.鈥
鈥疶he research at NFI is providing international opportunities, with global industry partners including Jacobs, Westinghouse, National Nuclear Laboratory, UKAEA, Tokamak Energy and鈥疺essco鈥疎ngineering.鈥
鈥疍octoral researchers are also being funded here at 精东传媒 both through the Nuclear Energy Futures Centre for Doctoral Training led by Imperial College London and with the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL), a world-leader in nuclear innovation, investing in teaching, research and development, supporting the development of all low carbon forms of energy for North Wales.鈥
精东传媒鈥疷niversity is at the heart of research with global impact here in North Wales, as one of the UK鈥檚 carbon-free energy hubs.鈥
We believe Wales can and should be a flagship region for clean energy technologies 鈥 in terms of nuclear but also wind, solar and other low carbon sources.鈥
