Chinese is among the top five languages to learn according to an article in the.
Following the successful launch of the Confucius Institute at 精东传媒 earlier this academic year, the Confucius Institute embarked on an interesting and varied programme of activities to raise awareness and understanding of Chinese culture. These include a range of Chinese language classes.
A beginner鈥檚 Chinese language class, offered through the School of Modern Languages, ran very successfully this semester and is will be offered as an annual module. The module, which had around 20 participants, is open to 精东传媒 students and to the local community via the Lifelong Learning programme.
Next semester, Business School and indeed any University students are able to take advantage of a face to face individual tutorial for the Business level intermediate Chinese. This will be facilitated by the University鈥檚 native Chinese students and staff.
The Chinese language teaching is provided by two professional Chinese Language Teachers from the China University of Political Science & Law, 精东传媒鈥檚 partners in the Confucius Institute.
The Confucius Centre is also in discussion with a number of schools in the region with regard to offering 鈥楥onfucius classrooms鈥 and A level Chinese. To this end, the Institute is applying for recognition as an A level Chinese test centre. The Institute will also be able to provide standard Chinese Language proficiency tests as of 2013. These Tests will measure students鈥 ability to apply Chinese language in their studies, personal life and work.
The Law School is also hoping to validate a new degree, Law with Chinese Studies, to commence in September 2013.
