A Criminology and Criminal Justice degree at ¾«¶«´«Ã½ helps you explore the causes of crime, how justice systems operate, and the ways societies respond to offending. You'll examine questions such as:

• Why do people commit crime?
• How does the criminal justice system work?
• What contributes to safer and fairer communities?

From policing and punishment to rehabilitation and prevention, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how society tackles crime, and the challenges facing criminal justice agencies today.

Studying Criminology and Criminal Justice is not just about understanding theory. You'll have opportunities to apply your learning through our work placement module, helping develop professional skills and industry insight.

Past students have worked with organisations such as Victim Support and Citizens Advice. These experiences can help you develop communication and problem-solving skills whilst also learning how to manage challenging situations.

You can also choose to undertake a ‘Work Placement Year’, working with a self-sourced organisation relevant to your studies, gaining real-world insight and valuable industry connections.

From your first year, you'll examine the social issues connected to crime and justice and how crime affects individuals and communities. You’ll explore topics such as education, mental health, and social class, gaining a broader perspective and deeper understanding of how crime impacts society.

You may have opportunities to engage with initiatives such as Read and Grow, where students support ex-offenders on their journey of rehabilitation. These experiences can help deepen your understanding of working with people who have lived experience of the criminal justice system.

A Criminology and Criminal Justice degree can provide the knowledge and transferable skills relevant to a wide range of careers within criminal justice, community safety and related sectors.
