This PhD investigates the intangible cultural heritage (ICH) of two endangered crafts, Welsh double-cloth weaving and Scottish kiltmaking, both of which are on the Heritage Crafts Red List of Endangered Crafts. Since ratifying the UNESCO Convention of ICH in 2024, safeguarding in the UK must include such tacit knowledge. This study uses filmed reflections, where practitioners feedback on their own practice to surface this tacit knowledge. Cognitive Discourse Analysis (CODA) will be used to analyse linguistic meaning 鈥 the gaps and patterns of what is not said directly (Tenbrink, 2020), applied to the practitioner feedback, focus groups, semi-structured interviews, a policy corpus and survey. To my knowledge this is the first time CODA has been used to analyse how practitioners and communities perceive, communicate and experience endangered craft loss.听
